The Early History of Jazz

There have been many genres of music that have come and go. Many genres of music have been very popular, but don't last for many years. Only one genre of music has been successful, and loved, since it originated. Jazz was formed by a few inspired musicians, that with their dedication and love of music, produced millions of even more inspired musicians.

Jazz was first played by a man named Buddy Bolden in the late nineteenth century. As he grew up, he loved improvising and creating new music that was based on old ragtime and blues tunes. He was the pioneer of jazz, leading big bands that mixed ragtime and blues styles to create a new unique style of music. Although he is the creator of this music, the term "jazz" was not actually used until after he passed. Still, he was responsible for the origination of this legendary genre of music. As jazz grew more popular throughout the city of New Orleans, Louisiana (the city where it started), word spread around the United States of how inspiring this music was. This led to many great musicians making a name for themselves in the jazz department.

One of the more influential jazz musicians of the time was Duke Ellington. Arguably the most famous jazz musician ever, his compositions, arrangements, and recordings were beyond belief. He was one of the cornerstones of jazz's growth throughout the United States, and was responsible for making the music that people grew to love. Another popular jazz musician was Louis Armstrong. No man before ever played the trumpet like Louie Armstrong. His ability to lure in people just with the simplistic, yet invigorating riffs on the trumpet brought about a lot of success for him. He led a very successful career, playing jazz well into his seventies. Miles Davis, an admirer or both of these musicians, turned out to be one of the greatest jazz musicians as well. His ability to use the techniques of the aforementioned musicians, along with improvising to create his own unique style, helped jazz continue to be successful throughout the decades, and helped musicians such as Kenny G, John Coltrane, and many others to build on jazz to make it the most successful and enjoyable genre of music to listen to and to play.

All the musicians in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century helped build jazz into music that everybody came to love. Not only did it allow musicians to create new, original tunes, but it helped people better express the emotions and ideas to a bigger audience. Jazz may have been created more than 100 years ago, but its history and developments make it the most interesting and most enjoyable music worldwide.
